My Education and Professional Background

I attended Brewton Parker College and graduated with a bachelor's degree in Middle Grades Education. I also have earned my Master's Degree, Educational Specialist Degree, and Doctoral Degree from Nova Southeastern University (GO SHARKS!). My certification is in Middle Grades Language Arts, Social Studies, and Reading. I am also certified as a Reading Specialist P-12. I began my career teaching 8th grade Language Arts and I have taught 7th grade Social Studies, and 8th grade Georgia Studies. I have worked for Liberty County School System since my education career began in 1999. I have been teaching READ180 for seven years.

My Educational Philosophy

I believe that each child is a unique individual who needs a secure, caring, and stimulating atmosphere in which to grow and mature emotionally, intellectually, physically, and socially. It is my desire as an educator to help students meet their fullest potential in these areas by providing an environment that is safe, supports risk-taking, and invites a sharing of ideas. I have high expectations for all of my students and feel that every student can learn content and character! By providing quality instruction of reading skills and strategies through differentiated instruction and cooperative learning, I encourage my students to become active participants in their education. Not only do they learn content, but they also gain a sense of community, respect, and responsibility.
