Remember, reading each night helps to improve fluency and comprehension. These are very important skills moving forward for success.

The skills being taught will begin to get increasingly more difficult as we move forward in the year. Please encourage your child to be a focused learner and an active participator in class.

Anything you need to know you can usually find in this binder. (This will be a HUGE way for us to correspond throughout the year) If you can't find something, write me a note, put it in the front pocket of the Binder and I will get back to you as soon as possible!

iReady & AR Update:

iReady- iReady is the computer program we use to monitor student progress throughout the school year. The students will take Diagnostic Assessments through iReady 3 times during the year. With the results of these assessments, Learning Paths are created for each child that will target the skills they need reinforcement on. Students are given time in class to work on their paths, but are also able and encouraged to work on iReady from home as well. It is a district and school expectation that students work on each of their Reading & Math paths to get practice on needed skills in each subject throughout the week.

AR- Each quarter, every child has a point goal in AR as well as each child will also need to maintain an 85% average on all books read each quarter to make their goal. I will closely monitor each student and adjust point goals and reading levels as I see needed. If you have concerns feel free to contact me as well!  I want their reading to be enjoyable!!  Some students tend to rush through tests and in 2nd grade there are no "re-dos"... Once the test is entered, it stays. Please encourage your child to read very carefully!!

Would you like to help your child this year in 2nd grade?

**Read nightly with your child.

**Practice addition and subtraction facts for speed and accuracy.

**Check and sign Planner daily.

**Check and review Homework daily. Discuss any problem areas and correct mistakes.
