Everyone did a great job bringing in items for the animals at Zoo Atlanta!  

 

What a great week!  Thank you for signing and returning the report cards. 

Our Cinderella teaser show was great!  Please join us in April for the complete performance.  Tickets are on sale. 

 

The fourth nine week quarter is here already.  I'll send home a math skill letter this week. 

Career Day was a big success!  Ask your child about all the guest speakers.  

 

We are learning about the contributions of George Washington Carver.  Ask your child about the sweet potato slips we made this week.

Check out the Continents and Oceans map website.  You can practice locating each large piece of land and body of water. 

 

We had a great 100th Day of School! 

 

    Great job readers!  Clarkdale students are Going for the Gold!  As a reading incentive, each student has opportunities to earn tickets each quarter.  At the end of the fourth nine weeks, we will have a huge drawing with big prizes!  The more you read, the more chances you have at a big prize!  

 

In math we are working on geometry and problem solving. 

Coming up in social studies we are learning about important Americans: Thedore Roosevelt, George Washington Carver, and Harriet Tubman. 

Ask your child to act out the continents and oceans song they learned. 

 

 

Lots of cool magnets were brought in to share!  Ask your child to explain the magnet experiments we've tried this week.

During writing, our focus has been writing a personal narrative.  Ask your child about:

- unfreezing a character, telling a story in small steps, and bringing out the inside!  Our stories are really taking shape!!! 

 

 

What a great hike up Kennesaw Mountain!  Thank you to all the parent chaperones that helped us along the way. 

 

We had a great visit with our families during the Loved Ones Lunch.  What a special day!!

 

Congratulations to our student teacher Ms. Twiss!  She has completed her time here at Clarkdale and will be leaving us this Friday.

 

Ask your child about the contributions of Lewis, Clark, and Thomas Jefferson. 


In class, we've been working on a reading strategy called Flip the Sound.  We're on the lookout for ways students are using the reading strategies in the books they are reading.

This week is Red Riboon Week.  We have lots of activities planned this week!

 

 

The turnout for the 80's Dance was fantastic!!! We raised over $300 for Relay for Life.  Way to Go! 

 

We had a great time with our special bus safety visitor! 

 

Conference Week is next week.  I look forward to meeting with you and discussing your child's progress.  Remember, students will be dismissed two hours early next week. 

 

The second quarter has begun!  During this quarter our focus will be:

- reading for information

-comparing literary and informational texts

-blending words

-narrative writing

-landforms, sound, magnets, Thomas Jefferson, and exploration

 

Our standardized testing is complete.  Overall, the class did a great job with testing procedures. Everyone was present and on time!  Way to go!

An information letter about IXL was sent home in your child's folder.  IXL is a website that can be used to support math skill practice.  Be sure to check it out!

What to expect in first grade:
This year, your child will be working on word and spelling patterns in reading. Your child will see writing modeled daily.
I'll send home a letter
explaining the math standards for the first nine week period and ways that you can support your child at home as well.
I'm so proud to teach first graders!
