ANNOUNCEMENTS:
*Tempe is our Student of the Week. He is always cooperative and never fails to come to class with brilliant ideas. Congratulations, Tempe!
*FCAT is next month, already! It is very important for the 5th graders to give their absolute best effort this year, as their scores determine the classes they will be taking next year in Middle school. I highly recommend going to www.fcatexplorer.com to practice. The questions are based on FCAT skills, and very closely mirror the actual FCAT test. Even better, they "teach" after each question, even if the wrong answer is selected. Children need to log in (last name followed first initial) and enter in the password. Their password is 10 characters long. The first 2 characters is the number 36. This is followed by the first four letters of their last name. The last four characters of the password is their birth month and year. *Use 01 for January, etc. E-mail me if you have any difficulties logging on. It's a great tool for all students. Correctly answered questions earn them "tokens" to use to play interactive games. They should select 6th Grade FCAT for Reading, since there is no 5th Grade available. Math and Science are on 5th Grade level.
*We are in the midst of an "A.R Challenge" with Mrs. Wolvin's 4th Grade class. Ask your child about it! Both classes are reading more than ever. Some students have already met their Quarter 3 goals! WOW! It is great to see the competition motivate the students to read. They are encouraged to read CAREFULLY, since their test scores are a factor in the challenge. As of now, our class is leading by over 1 point per student. Keep up the good work!
*Please return the pink permission slips regarding the end of the year trips. This was sent home a few weeks ago. Several have not returned the form yet. These MUST be turned in in order for your child to attend the field trips. If you need another permission slip, let me know. If you opted to pay the amount instead of selling a box of candy, you do not need to pay the money right now, but you may send it in at ANY time and we will make record of it in the office.
*We are continuing to gradually learn all of states and capitals. So far, we have mastered tne New England and Mid-Atlantic states. Little by little, we are becoming experts. We are learning the postal abbreviations, locations on the map, as well as some fun facts for each states. When we have mastered all 50, we will be testing on it as well as creating "State Plates" as a fun, culminating project. More info on this later! Until then, check out the geography links on this page to help practice learning the states.
*Please take a moment to refer to the links on this page. There are some great websites to help practice skills. I've personally reviewed and selected these websites. I posted the ones that I know kids would enjoy visiting because they are not only educational, but fun!
