The boys and girls wrote some very cute poems about winter. Check out the tab titled, "Winter Poems," to read them! I told my students all about what it was like to grow up in Minnesota in the winter. I showed them pictures of snow banks, ice covered windows and frosty trees! They were inspired by the pictures to write these fun poems!

January is a very exciting time for teachers. It always seems to be the time in the school year when our students grow and mature right before our eyes! They spent the first couple of months of school getting used to the routines and learning what is expected of them at school.
I started off the new year by telling the boys and girls that now they are "Full Time 2nd Graders". In the beginning of the year they were still making that transition from First grade. Now I expect much more from them. I've started giving them more responsibilities and setting even higher expectations. They have not disappointed me! They seem very excited and eager to be given more responsibility.
The school year is almost halfway over and I still feel incredibly blessed to be your child's teacher!
I updated the Holiday Pictures and Pictures from Second Quarter-check them out!

Conferences went SO well! Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to talk to me. It was really nice to get to hear what your children think of school. It is my job to make learning fun so it was great to hear that they enjoy coming to school each day. Thank you for letting me teach your children!

I figured out how to upload pictures to the "Pictures" page on the website! Check it out!
Pajama/Movie party!! We had a blast! The boys and girls definitely earned this party. Last week there were two different occasions where staff members came up to me and told me I should really think about putting a penny in the piggy bank because 2nd Grade was being so respectful, quiet, etc. Wow! The boys and girls voted that they want their next reward to be a...Sports Party!

We finished up the first quarter of school already! I can't believe how fast the time is moving. I am having so much fun that I almost want time to slow down a little! I thought I would touch on some highlights from the first quarter...
-2nd Grade selling the most Entertainment Books!
-Going to the Miramar Air Show
-Having our Root Beer Float party
-Creating our own candy bars that were inspired by Willy Wonka
-Witnessing your children praying for Brendon and Derek while they were in Israel
-Learning about China for International Day
-Playing a Jeopardy style review game while my parents were visiting our class
I am looking forward to making new memories as we begin second quarter.
Blessings,
Mrs. Fairley :)

In college, prospective teachers are taught to be firm with students at the beginning of the year. We make sure to establish behavior expectations for our students so that they know from the very beginning what we expect from them. I completely agree with this philosophy. When I was student teaching I learned this lesson the hard way. I started out "too nice" and it made it more challenging to get them to respect me.
I am very happy to say that I feel all my students respect me this year. They know what my behavior expectations are and they know there will be consequences for misbehaving. We have now started to get to that point in the year where I can be a little more "silly" with them because it is easy to "reel" them back in. There were a couple moments this week where funny things happened and we all cracked up laughing. It's great to know that we can take a minute to laugh about the joys of life and then get right back to being focused.
I have asked the boys and girls to be praying for my husband, Brendon, and my big brother, Derek while they are in Israel. It almost brought tears to my eyes when a couple students volunteered to pray for them before we went out to lunch. Please continue to pray for them at home!

This week we started taking prayer requests before we go out to lunch. The boys and girls have been very eager to share their concerns and joys with the class and we always have many hands that go up when I ask for people to pray. There are many adults who are terrified to pray in front of others! I think it's so amazing that your children are excited and eager to pray for eachother. Today we even prayed for one of my best friends. She left yesterday for a 10 day mission trip in Africa. We talked about what it means to be a missionary and we prayed that God would keep her and her group safe.

Congrats 2nd Grade for selling the most Entertainment Books!! I told the students that if we won I would dress up in a silly costume. They voted that I had to dress up like Mr. Fairley!! The whole school also sold over 700 books, which meant that Mrs. Carter had to change her hairstyle a little for the day! Check out the picture of our class here!

About Mrs. Fairley
Hello! My name is Mrs. Fairley and I am very excited to be teaching 2nd grade this year. I have teaching experience in Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, and 6th grade. Every teacher has a grade that they fit best in and 2nd is definitely the place for me! My student teaching experience was in First and Second grade. In 2007-2008 I taught Kindergarten full time and last year I did a lot of subbing in different grades. I am thrilled that God has brought me to Faith Community and I am looking forward to a great year!
I still have a lot to learn about how to use this website. My hope is that this will be a place where I can upload the weekly newsletter, post fun stories, homework assignments, and upcoming field trips.
Hopefully I will see you all on Wednesday September 2nd from 3:45-4:45 for an informal open house!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Fairley
