What will we study?

Life science focuses on living things.  We will learn how to classify them, how they adapt and reproduce, what they are made of and how they work. We will also look into how they interact, influence and react to their environment.

7th graders will create a science project and potentially compete in the science fair.

What do I need for class?

Bring a pen, your science folder and your agenda to class each day.  Your warm-up spiral notebook will be stored in the classroom.  A class set of textbooks will be available for lessons at school.  Occasionally index cards, graph paper or colored pencils will be needed.

How will my grade be earned?

Grades are compiled from the following areas: daily warm-up, quizzes/tests, classwork, vocabulary, projects/labs, notes, homework and agenda signatures.  Each assignment is worth a specific amount of points.  For example, a quiz may be worth 15 points while a group project may be worth 50 points.  Late work is not accepted.

Will I be working on my own or in groups?

Both.  Scientific inquiry can require collaboration so we practice it in class.  Students who elect to work individually or are a detriment to their group will be required to complete the assignment in its entirety PLUS an additional assignment determined by the teacher.  Students working alone will not participate in class activities or games during the assignment.

What about homework?

When homework assignments are given, students must write the assignment in their agenda book.  When there is science homework, a parent signature is required in the agenda by the end of the week.  Late work is not accepted.

What if I miss class?

It is YOUR responsibility to find out what you missed and make up the work.

Are there class procedures?

Class begins when you enter the door! You should be in your seat when the bell rings. Work on your daily warm up and then follow teacher instructions for class.  Class ends when the teacher dismisses you, not when the bell rings.

What if I am not prepared for class?

Don’t just sit there!  Borrow supplies from a classmate.

Where do I go for help?

Phone a friend.  Find a buddy that also has your same teacher for class.  See if they can explain what you need. Double check with your teacher to make sure you got the correct information.

Let me know.  We can arrange a time to get you caught up so you’re not feeling overwhelmed. I can be available before or after school if I know you’re coming.
