Dolch Sight Word Lists:

What are they?

The Dolch Word List is a list of 220 "service words" that must be swiftly recognized in order to reach reading fluency. Most of the words in the Dolch list cannot be sounded out, therefore, must be learned by sight.  The Dolch sight words make up 50 to 70 percent of any common text.  Repetition and practice are extremely imperative in making fluent recognition of sight words automatic. Once this central part of basic sight words has been memorized, children read more fluently and with increased comprehension.

These Dolch words lists are divided into grade levels and ordered by frequency.
