Biography

My name is Erica Deakins and this is my third year teaching Lower School Science at Grace School.  I am an honors graduate of the University of Houston and am currently a part of the ISMART graduate program pursuing a Master's in Education in Curriculum with a focus on the integration of science, math, and technology.
I have a diverse background in both education and social services.  For the 8 years prior to my time at Grace, I worked primarily in public schools in Houston, Texas as a science teacher.  A few years ago, I had the privilege of working on an exhibit for the Children's Museum of Houston on invention and creative thinking, and fostering creativity in the science classroom is the focus of my current thesis work. This year, I look forward to engaging your students in hands-on science and encouraging in them a love of lifelong learning.  It is with great joy that I engage in the discovery process with all of my Grace scientists, discovering things great and small in the natural world.

My husband Sam and I have been married since 2007 and our family is rounded out by our cats Chloe and Rufus and our dog Darla. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, biking, and going to museums and concerts.  I am so excited to be a part of the Grace Family and I am looking forward to an amazing year!
