Summer Reading
1. Find a book that you’ll really love. Use amazon.com, the student book reviews on my website, or ask a friend.
2. Make sure it is on Accelerated Reader. (If it isn’t, read it anyway, but then read another one that is.)
To check, go to the Accelerated Reader Web site (http://www.arbookfind.com/) and enter the title of the book in the search box.
3. Make sure that the books you read will total the number of points necessary.
Honors English and or history classes: 30 points
Humanities English and history classes: 30 points
Academic English and or history classes: 20 points
Standard /Resource/ ESL/ Bi-Lingual English and or history classes: 10 points
4. Read your book! If you know that you have trouble remembering the details come September (when you will be expected to take an AR quiz), take notes as you read and write a summary when you finish.
5. Don’t do it for the points, do it for yourself. Reading will help you succeed in all of your classes, not to mention in your future job. It also makes you smarter and that makes you more attractive.
