Senior Year

Hello Seniors. I hope you had an exhilarating, action packed summer and you are ready to go to work. Senior year is the most exciting year of your high school career. You will work hard, but have fun. I love teaching seniors, because you are young adults and come to class with a myriad of experiences, knowledge, and dreams. What is in your future? What do you want to do after you graduate?

I know some of you, and I am looking forward to getting to know all of you better. I have two children: a daughter, Catherine and a son, William.  My daughter had our first granddaughter, Maren, on Ground Hog's Day, 2-2-12. I will apologize now for all the Maren stories I will be sharing with you. I hope that you will share what and who are important to you. I moved from Tennessee to Florida in 2003, but I am originally from Maine. Were you born here? If you are not a native, where are you from and when did you move to Florida?

I love Florida’s weather and was always cold in Maine! I even complained about the weather during the summer months in Maine. I live on a golf course and love the flora and fauna here. What do you love about Florida? Are you planning on staying in Florida after graduation?

I went to the University of Maine and the University of South Florida. I majored in English and earned a minor in Education and Social Studies. My Master of Arts degree is from USF- go Bulls! In college I played varsity tennis, swimming, basketball and volleyball all four years. Do you play any sports for BRHS? Or do you play on a club team or a member of a club? I am a strong believer in the importance of being a team player and club member. You will be surprised at the lessons you learn as part of a team or club that will apply to your career and personal success.

I take my job as your teacher very seriously. A teacher leads, encourages, motivates and pushes her students to stretch and reach their greatest potential. I’m going to ask you to think and think hard, every day, all day and to act responsibly and honorably. What are you going to ask of me? My objective is to show you the wonder of words and how proficiency of language, finding that just right word for the moment, is the greatest feeling of true self expression. Let’s have fun and work hard.
