Course Overview

              Welcome to my writing class! This course is designed to help you develop your writing skills. The class will be set up using a writing workshop approach. As part of a community of writers, you will have opportunities to write in a variety of modes and receive feedback from peers as well as from me. Class sessions will focus on strategies for planning, drafting, revising, and editing writing. I look forward to helping you grow as writers! (See curriculum maps for more specific details.)

 

Objectives

  • Students will develop skills in all phases of the writing process, including prewriting, drafting, revising, and editing.
  • Students will be able to adjust their writing to fit different purposes and audiences.
  • Students will be able to write in a variety of modes, including expository and persuasive essays, description, narratives, and poetry.
  • Students will be able to analyze literature through writing.
  • Students will be able to develop their ideas using strong supporting details.
  • Students will learn to add more variety to their sentences and to make more effective word choices.
  • Students will become more aware of their own styles and voices in their writing.
