My classroom consists of English Language Learners (ELL)- students whose native language is not English. I currently have students from China, Vietnam, Nicaragua, Mexico, Honduras, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Pakistan, Egypt, and Chile. They practice speaking, listening, reading, and writing in English only. Although in my class I ask my students to predominantly speak English, students are encouraged to retain their native language at home. Studies show that knowing more than one language boosts academic performance.
