A Little About Mrs. Schmidbauer

I have been a 5th grade teacher for 18 years, and I love every minute of it! I was raised in Somers Point, am a graduate of Mainland Regional HS, and West Chester University with a bachelors degree in Elementary Education.  I now reside in Egg Harbor Township with my husband Brad, my son Max, and my dogs Charlie and Colbie.  I enjoy the beach, music of all kinds, and spending a lot of time outdoors.  I am excited to be teaching language arts and Social Studies all day because it really allows me to focus in on your child's needs in reading and writing.

My Teaching Philosophy

You will notice that I do not give many tests or quizzes.  I believe that a child is so much more than a test score. I love to expose them to numerous novel activities, literature circles, debates, opinion papers, thematic projects, and narratives reflecting of their personal experiences.  I use guided reading and one on one conferencing to check comprehension and determine students' understanding of the standards we cover in 5th grade. We always have numerous long term assignments going on in my classroom.  I like to expand on them as much as possible, and tie them into many different disciplines.  This teaches your child the responsibilies of organization and time management which prepares them for what's to come in middle school, high school and even college.  As long as your child is reading daily, they are also expanding their vocabulary and sharpening their comprehension skills without even realizing it.
