History
Rogers Creek Elementary School serves children from Pre-K through eighth grade.   It was founded in 1992 to replace the seventy-year-old Idlewild Elementary School. Rogers Creek Elementary School is located on twenty-six acres along Rogers Creek in southwest McMinn County.  The location in southwest McMinn County was chosen by the McMinn County Board of Education to include Idlewild and Hillsview communities. Hillsview Elementary School closed in 1979 with Idlewild School closing in the spring of 1992. The school was built to alleviate overcrowding at Riceville and Calhoun Elementary Schools. The past principals were Bernard Patterson 1992-1993, serving only one year, Glen Ingram 1993-2002, Jeffery Derrick 2002-2010 and Randall Bates is the current principal 2010-present.

Our Mission

The mission of Rogers Creek Elementary School is to educationally, psychologically, and technologically prepare our students through the use of diverse, rigorous, and data-driven instructional strategies in a nurturing atmosphere empowering every child to achieve his or her potential for academic and societal pursuits.

Our Vision

Rogers Creek Elementary School and the community work together to provide a meaningful educational experience for each child by becoming a premiere learning community for McMinn County and the State of Tennessee.

 Facility
Rogers Creek School currently contains 20 classrooms (all with interactive white boards), library, cafeteria, gymnasium with a stage, resource room, speech, 2 computer labs, art and music room, faculty lounge, copy/conference room, guidance office, Family Resource room, Auxiliary Instruction room with an interactive white board, principal’s office, and bathroom facilities in all three pods that meet the required ADA standards with additional bathrooms located next to the gymnasium.  Outside facilities include a football field, softball/baseball field, outside storage buildings, sewage treatment plant, a walking trail that surrounds our children’s playground and one Pre-K fenced playground which are accessible to the community.
Although we are located in a rural setting, the community rallies to each event sponsored by the school. A few examples are: An average of 200 stakeholders attend our annual Muffins and Moms, Donuts and Dads, Grandparents and Goodies events which are used to promote family engagement; 500 or more attend home football games in the fall; $10,000 is generated from our yearly PTO Fundraisers; over 300 Pre-K-8th graders join us for our Fall Festival; each Monday and Thursday evening our doors are open for Family Reading Night which averages 30 students and their parents. An annual Veterans' Day Program and seasonal musicals bring students and their families together.

Rogers Creek Elementary School is a Family Friendly School.  It extends a welcoming attitude to families in the community.  We believe that students are motivated to achieve their highest level when their families are actively involved in the school.  Some of the benefits of family involvement include:

  • Positive teacher/parent/guardian/child communication
  • Improved student attitudes and behavior
  • Better attendance in school
  • Improved grades
  • Extra curricular activities
  • Increased parent/guardian teacher conference numbers

We at Rogers Creek Elementary School are very proud of our accomplishments - “Good Things Are Happening at Rogers Creek.”
