Students will also be working on Real World situations to see how math is used in real life! We will continue to work on the importance of math vocabulary.

We will also be reviewing all of our multiplication and division facts.

Students should also continue to study their multiplication and division facts to keep their skills sharp!! Fact fluency is extremely important to success in mathematics. The students have a Fact Fluency quiz monthly, as well as 1 fact fluency test per marking period. IXL can be used in school and at home to help keep mathematical concepts fresh in their heads. IXL skills should be practiced to a SMARTscore of 80 or higher. IXL Skills that are assigned should be recorded on student charts. Charts are collected at the end of the marking period and count as a test grade.

ST Math can be used at home or at school. Students must have completed at least 1 hour per week of ST Math. ST Math helps students work on their problem solving skills.

Students should be using their study guides to help them prepare for upcoming assessments. Study guides are the best resource the students have to prepare!  Please check Schoology and Email often to find upcoming assessments, projects, and notes from me :)

**** Please remember that Homework must be completed.  Points are lost for missing homework assignments. *****

New Retention Information!! Please refer to the NEW BBOED policy on passing Math for the year.

Students who are identified as failing Mathematics in grades 4-8 after any progress report or report card are recommended to attend a Mathematics support class with a teacher of Mathematics at his or her neighborhood school on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings. Students may exit the zero period support class if they meet the requirements. Students who fail to maintain regular attendance (65% of eligible classes) in the morning sessions will not be eligible for elementary Mathematics summer school and will be retained in grade if the students fail Mathematics for the school year.

SCIENCE & SOCIAL STUDIES

with Mrs. Costanza

SCIENCE: In Science, students will be learning about Changes to Earth's Surface. Students will be able to identify the processes that change Earth's surface such as weathering, erosion & deposition. They will examine real world examples of each of these processes and learn ways to prevent them from happening. The kids will be doing many hands on activities to understand concepts taught. Please have them review the vocabulary from the lessons on the Vocab Chart glued into their notebook. They can always visit the Ed Science Website (go to Clever & click the Ed Science app) to review videos we have watched in class as well. Students can also reinforce concepts by visiting Science IXL or by playing any of the Science Games located in the "Games Folder" in the Schoology Course.

SOCIAL STUDIES: In Social Studies, students will be learning about New Jersey. They will learn about the geography, climate, natural resources, first settlers, historical events, and culture of New Jersey. Students will learn about the 4 regions New Jersey is divided into and compare & contrast the characteristics of each region. They will also take a closer look at the Lenni-Lenape people who were the early settlers in New Jersey. Please have them review the vocabulary from the lessons on the Vocab Chart glued into their notebook. Students can also reinforce concepts by visiting Soc Studies IXL or by playing any of the Social Studies Games located in the "Games Folder" in the Schoology Course.
