Dear Parents,
I would like to welcome you and your child to the start of the new school year. I am dedicated to making this a busy, productive, and terrific year for all of my students. First a little about me, I am a mother of two beautiful teenaged daughters. I have been teaching for over 26 years. I am excited and looking forward to the new school year and some familiar faces!
This year we will have school planners which will serve as our means of communication between school and home. Pelican’s planners will go home with your student the first full week of school. Throughout the year I will keep you informed of everything that is going on here at school. Please make sure to check the papers, review, and sign these planners daily. If you have any notes or information for me please write it on a separate sheet of paper and include it in the planner pocket.
As you read and review the information in the planner look at the Positive Behavior Support PBIS which is our school wide behavior goals. Our class will use the color code system for behavior. Green is excellent, Blue is an infraction of rules with a description to follow in the planner, and Red is a phone call home to parents. Please sign the colored dot in the planner, even if it is green, as this is our daily communication.
Homework will be sent home daily Monday through Thursday and will be located in the planner. All homework is expected to be completed and returned the following day.
Breakfast will be 7:25-7:45 in the classroom. Instruction will begin promptly at 7:55. Please make sure that your child is on time and does not miss out on important information as this will be a very busy school year. Specials will be 10:20--11:05. Please make sure that your child adheres to the Pelican dress code (located in the planner) and wears appropriate attire especially on P.E. days. Also please bring a filled water bottle, no juice or sport drinks. Lunch will be 11:33-11:55. Our school day will be filled with learning and lots of activities. We will utilize every minute of our school day. Dismissal will be at 2:10. Early sign outs and early dismissals are discouraged. Please keep this in mind as you plan appointments as not to steal away our precious learning time.
My goal for this year is for all of my students to become independent thinkers and problem solvers. I expect them to be productive and self-directed in their learning. Through involvement and communication with students, parents, and the teacher we will succeed. Together we can make a difference for our children. Please feel free to contact me with any concern.
