ACT - American College Test

A few parents have asked about the ACT.  Here are some things I would like to share with you.

  • Students may take the ACT up to 12 times
  • The ACT is offered on seven Saturdays each year at various locations around the world
  • Zachary, West Feliciana, Central, and LSU are some of the locations in our area
  • The basic fee for ACT (without the optional writing test) is $52.
  • The writing test does not affect the overall ACT score.  Some out-of-state colleges require the writing test.  LSU requires it for consideration for some of their most competitive scholarships.
  • Students register for the ACT online at www.ACTstudent.org
  • Students MUST NOT forget their user IDs and passwords once they create an account.  There can only be one account per person.  This account is also where students are required to upload a photo.  Students can access their scores online, too.
  • Go to www.ACTstudent.org for test dates and registration deadlines.
  • Our school code is 192739
  • All of our 10th graders will take the Pre-ACT in March.  This is required for all 10th graders.  There is a mandatory $13 fee for the test.
  • All students will take the ACT at school on a weekday in March of their 11th grade year
  • There are differing philosophies about how early and often students should test.  There is no correct answer to this.  It is a family’s decision.  Be aware that a lot of the skills addressed are taught in 10th and 11th grade.  Some families want to students to become familiar / comfortable with the test early.  That is fine.  Many wait until June of 10th grade or October of 11th grade to start.  Again, it is your money and your choice.
  • 11th & 12th graders on Free/Reduced Lunch may be eligible for 2 fee waivers.  There are no fee waivers for students below 11th grade.
  • You can find LOTS of information at www.ACTstudent.org
  • Consider downloading the free ACTstudent app on smart phones and tablets.  The app includes practice items, too.
  • Download the ACT Photo app to upload the required photo to your account.
  • Free test prep is available through the new ACT Academy webtool.  www.act.org/acadmeny
  • Students who have documented disabilites may be eligible for testing accommodations.  These must be approved by ACT and the process can take several weeks.  Ask Mrs. Peterson for details.
