 Pelican Elementary Physical Education 2021-2022

Dear Pelican Elementary Families,

Physical activity in a school’s physical education program is the cornerstone of an active lifestyle for all students. A school’s physical education program provides the skills, knowledge, and attitudes that facilitate physical activity after school, at home, and in the community. As a highly qualified Physical Education Teacher, along with my Assistant Coaches:

  •  We will provide a safe, organized learning environment in which all students can participate and succeed.

  • Teach a variety of physical activities that make physical education class fun and enjoyable.

  • Promote honesty, integrity, and good sportsmanship, while treating students fairly and with respect.

  • Prepare and encourage students to practice skills and be active for a lifetime.

Student’s Responsibilities

  • The student should come dressed to participate in P.E. Proper attire includes shorts, shirts, and athletic shoes with socks.  Long pants and long sleeves are acceptable in the winter or cooler weather.

  • No stocking hats or bandanas are allowed in P.E.  Please wear a brimmed hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen which should be applied at home, before arriving to school.

  • The student is responsible to participate in all activities unless he/she has a note signed by the parent or legal guardian for medical reasons.  Long term medical problems need a note from a physician.

  • The student is expected to put forth his/her best effort in class and to conduct him/herself in a safe, respectful manner following the class rules and school-wide PBIS expectations.  Behaviors other than this will result in reflection time outs or noted in our new school wide LiveSchool online system.

  • Remember to bring a plastic water bottle full of water everyday. Students must bring water out to PE in order to safely participate and stay hydrated.

Parent’s Responsibility:

  • Please help your child remember to dress appropriately.  Even if your child does not have PE for specials, they will still be going outside for recess.  It is imperative that they arrive at school everyday with closed toe athletic shoes (not boots) for their safety.

  • Provide a plastic water bottle with their full name and teacher’s name and remind them to bring it to school.  Only water is permitted, no sports drinks, juice, or soda please.

  • A note from a legal guardian is required for your child to sit out for a medical reason for up to 3 days.  Please send this to school with your child.  Your child can bring that to P.E. and may sit and read, or help in some way. Please encourage participation if at all possible.  Long term medical excuses from a physician are required to miss P.E. more than three days.

  • Email Coach Sager for concerns at [email protected].

We are excited for the opportunity to work with your child this school year! Thank you for your continued support and dedication to keeping our students safe. Please detach the bottom portion, sign, and return to school.

In Good Health,

Coach Sager and her Assistant Coaches “Coach J & Coach Pica”
