"Life is divided into three terms - that which was, which is, and which will be. Let us learn from the past to profit by the present, and from the present, to live better in the future."
- William Wordsworth

Our approach to literature this year will revolve around an in-depth study of quality poems, short stories, plays, and novels. We will be pairing texts to current nonfiction academic text.  The historical, cultural, and societal awakenings forming the backdrop for these literary pieces will be examined and then brought into the present with nonfiction close reading.

In-class discussions as well as at home assignments will be used to engage and challenge students to consider their own cultural values covering a range of thematic issues.

Students will be given regular opportunities to improve reading comprehension, close reading, writing, and thinking skills.  A consistent effort with an emphasis on quality work will be encouraged and expected from every student.

Any assignment given can be handed in previous to the due date for revision and suggestions following the writing rubric. I am available periods 0, 3 and 6 for extra help and Tuesdays after school. You may also schedule an appointment to meet for extra help after school.
