COURSE OFFERINGS
BIOLOGY
Biology is the study of living things. We will be studying each of the Kingdoms of organisms. We will have a hands on class with opportunities for lab investigations and inquiry activities at least 20% of the time. An integral part of the class will be collecting and analyzing data. Topics of study will include molecules and cells, heredity and evolution,classification and diversity of life, ecology and the nature of science. We will also be preparing for the Biology End of Course exam which will be given in the Spring. Students must receive a "pass" on this exam to receive credit for the course.
PRE-AP BIOLOGY
Pre AP Biology is considered an advanced General Biology course. It is specifically designed to prepare the college bound science major for our AP Biology course. It consists of a comprehensive survey of biochemistry, cellular biology, molecular genetics and heredity, diversity, structure and function of organisms, and ecology. Several lab investigations will be completed and lab sheets/reports will be required. An integral part of the class will be collecting and analyzing data. It is a very interactive class and requires student dedication. Students will take the Biology End Of Level Exam in the Spring. Our goal would be to achieve a score of advanced on this exam.
ADVANCED PLACEMENT BIOLOGY
AP Biology is advanced biology course and is available only to those students who have already completed General Biology. It is considered a college level course and requires great amounts of reading and class preparation. Exams are particularly challenging and will require a great amount of student dedication and preparation. The course consists of a comprehensive survey of general biology that includes biochemistry, cellular biology, molecular genetics and heredity, biotechnology, diversity, structure and function of organisms, and ecology and evolution. Several required lab investigations will be completed and lab reports will be required. All students are also required to take the AP Biology Exam which is given in May. College credit may be given if a specific score on the exam is achieved.
