Welcome to Mrs. McCall's kindergarten web page!! I believe in the quote, "All I really
need to know about how to live and what to do and how to be I learned in kindergarten."
I try to make "our" class an engaging, hands-on, active, child-centered environment where
every child has the optimum opportunity to learn, create, and grow, physically, socially, and
academically. At this time, we have 8 boys and 9 girls in our class. Please check your child's orange folder daily. You may help your child with spelling words and sight words (list is on the back of orange folder), simple sentences, and decodable readers. Practice counting aloud to 100, counting objects to 20, identifying numbers to 20, and doing simple adding and subtracting. All students should identify beginning sounds, blend sounds together to make words, and read simple books. We get wordlists on Monday; study all week; and have test on Friday. Monday homework -- write sentences with first column of words -- usually will do first one in class; Tuesday -- sentences with second column; Wednesday -- practice writing name on back of Tuesday sentence paper. Continue to help your child practice reading decodable readers sent home; sign on front when you've listened to/helped read, and return in folder. WE ARE STRESSING BEGINNING READING -- as this is a necesssary skill for first grade. Please email, telephone, or use communication sheet on the front of the orange folder if you have concerns. Thank you for sharing your child with me!!!!! We have worked together to build a foundation that will help your child be a success in school.
