I have been teaching first grade for 8 years, but have been teaching for 18 years now. First grade is a very challenging grade for all of us. It is the grade where we have a lot of emphasis on reading and developing a lifelong love for reading. Reading is essential for success in other subjects. Reading practice must take place each night whether or not it is included on the homework sheet.

My first graders are very responsible students who are diligent about doing their homework. Below is the usual schedule for homework. See the homework sheet given in September   for more information.

Monday - write a sentence for each spelling word, practice vocabulary words and read story(when assigned)
Tuesday-write words 3 times each, read story again and practice words on list
Wednesday-write words in ABC order , practice addition and subtraction facts, read story
Thursday-Write words 3 times each, study for test, practice addition and subtraction facts
Friday-take spelling test, Math test, Reading test

This is the usual format for homework, however, it is subject to change when there are holidays. Any questions/comments about homework are welcome. The homework sheet given in class takes precedence over the website information.
