WELCOME!! TO FIFTH GRADE!!

This year I'll be teaching your child math and science.  Both of these subjects are Benchmark tested. So it is very important your child be present at school each day.  This is the schedule we follow.
This year your child will change classes.  Mrs. Taylor will teach literacy (reading, writing, language arts) and social studies.  My homeroom class is Block I and switch to Mrs. Taylor at 8:15 - 10:15.  They will be with me the remainder of the day.
8:15 - 10:15 Block I - Mrs. Taylor's Class for math and science
10:15-11:55 Block II - Mrs. Gray's Class for math and science.
11:55 - 12:25 Lunch
12:25 - 12:50 Recess
12:50 - 1:30 Special Class (P.E., library, music, art, computer lab)
1:30 - 2:00 Finish Block II
2:00 - 2:30 Independent/Class Read
2:30 - 3:00 Remediation
If you need to make any medical appointments, it would be easier on your child, if they can be seen in the afternoons.  It will be difficult for your child to make up science class or lab.

There will be few homework science assignments.  Most work will be done in their science notebooks during and class labs.
Math homework will be  made most days.  Your student will have an assignment of  approximately 5-10 problems.
It is due the next day.

If an assignment is not complete, your student will be assigned detention.  Detention is recess time.  It is a 25 minute period.  The assignment must be turned in at the end of detention, or a zero is given.  It is your student's responsilbity to turn the paper into me.  This doesn't apply for absences.  We follow the handbook for absences.

Please know I am an e-mail (vgray@hhs.nwsc.k12.ar.us) or phone (738-6228) call away.  Feel free to contact me.   I will also contact you if I feel your student needs extra support .
