I am very pleased to be your child's teacher this year.  I will be teaching Math and Science  to my homeroom, and Mrs. Plumlee's students.  We have gotten off to a very good start.  The students are eager to learn, and I am already seeing great results from our lessons.

Occasionally, I will ask students to volunteer to bring common objects for experiments.  Please let me know if you have a special expertise, information, or materials to share - it would be greatly appreciated.

Math:  All students need to memorize their multiplication facts - we use them for nearly everything we do in Math.  Please do fact practice nightly.  Your student has a Cool Cards packet to practice with - we made them at school.  Multiplication quizzes on Fridays!

We are finishing up adding and subtracting fractions.  We will begin multiplying fractions and least common denominators.  We will also be adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing (including decimals) with large numbers.  Exponents, using parentheses, and algebra will be included this nine weeks.  Whew!!!!

Michael's mother in Mrs. Plumlee's class has graciously offered to help us with our Math on Thursdays!  We are excited about having extra help on those days.

Science:  We are finishing up learning about ecosystems, plants, animals, and human impact on the environment.  We will begin learning about atoms, physical and chemical  changes, simple machines, and properties of light.

I look forward to a fantastic year of learning!

My email is lmahan@hhs.nwsc.k12.ar.us if you would like to email me.  Email is a terrific way to stay involved and have your questions answered.  I look forward to partnering with you to help your child succeed in school!

Very sincerely,

Mrs. Mahan
