Dear Parents,
This week we finished up FCAT testing and met a bunch of cuties at Kindergarten Round-Up! Both events were very satisfying!
We know you are busy making summer plans for your children and want to remind you of Camp Invention here at school. Camp Invention is a week-long summer camp that emphasizes creative thinking and problem solving. It is taught by our own teachers. Dates this summer are Monday, July 16 – Friday, July 20. Go online to www.campinvention.com to register. Children just love this summer camp experience!
Just a reminder as the weather gets warm again. The district dress code prohibits basketball or athletic shorts. Short shorts are also out along with rips, tears, and bling! You all have done a great job with the dress code this year. Thanks!
We are sending home a letter today to parents of fifth graders regarding the Stanford 10 Achievement Test. Stanford 10 Reading and Mathematics tests will be administered to all fifth grade students next week. Unlike the FCAT, the Stanford provides a comparison between our students and national norms in reading and math. When we receive test results, we will share them with you.
It’s hard to believe that next week is the first of May! May is a very busy month at school. We try to make it a good balance of work and fun. There will be field trips, picnics, field days, parties and so forth! Good manners are a must to participate in all the fun times. Remind your wonderful child to bring those manners to school each day! Good manners make our days run smoothly.
Coach Peterson has scheduled the last Social of this school year on Wednesday, May 2. And guess what? This time our second graders are invited to attend! What fun! So exciting! Remember entry is $5.00 and snacks are available.
Please remember to drive slowly and carefully in our parking lot. Speeding is dangerous and totally unacceptable. So is parking across the handicapped area at the front of the school. Sheriff Department deputies will be on campus all month.
Remember GHF Fitness Festival on Sunday, April 29 from 12:00 – 3:00. Information is on the back of this newsletter.
If you are interested in serving on next year’s School Advisory Council (SAC), please complete the tear-off at the end of this letter. We would love to have you!
Sincerely,
Barbara Buys
Principal

Dear Parents,
The first week of FCAT testing went smoothly. Thanks for bringing your children to school on time and ready to work hard. That makes a big difference in how our boys and girls perform on these important statewide achievement tests. The state has raised the bar on FCAT standards this year so the tests may have been more difficult than in years past.
Next week our fifth graders will take FCAT Science on Tuesday – Wednesday, April 24 – 25. We will do make-up tests as need through next Friday, April 27. Then we will all hope for the best and wait until student scores arrive.
We expect to receive Florida Writes results at the end of April – first of May. After that, third grade reading and math FCAT scores will arrive. Later, and hopefully before June 6, FCAT Reading, Math, and Science results will be here. We will let you know just as soon as we receive the scores.
Kindergarten Round-Up is scheduled for Wednesday, April 25 at 2:00 here at school. This is always an exciting afternoon at Kimball Wiles, and we look forward to it every year. We will meet our littlest Wildcats in the cafeteria with their parents. You will be able to begin the registration process IF you live in our school zone. Boys and girls will meet the Kindergarten teachers and see the classrooms. We hope you will join us next Wednesday if you have a child who will turn five-years-old on or before September 1, 2012.
We expect our Cookie Dough delivery on Wednesday, May 2. We will send it home with your child or give you a call if it is too large for a child to carry.
We need your cooperation with calls to the front office regarding a change in that day’s pick-up plans. Beginning Monday, April 23, you must call us no later than 1:30 PM. With school dismissal at 1:45, that is the latest we can assure getting messages to children and teachers. Thanks for your cooperation!
Gainesville Health and Fitness is once again sponsoring their Fitness Festival on Sunday, April 29 from 12:00 – 3:00. Information is on the back of this newsletter. There is a $500 reward to the school with the most participants. We’ve won it before! Let’s do it again!
Academic Focus for next week is Cause and Effect in Reading and Probablity in Mathematics.
Have a great week-end with your child!
Sincerely,
Barbara Buys

Dear Parents,
Next week begins two weeks of FCAT for students in grades 3 – 5. All three grades will be testing from 8:00 – 10:00 Monday – Thursday, April 16 – 19. Fifth graders will also test on Tuesday – Wednesday, April 24 – 25. No volunteers or visitors on campus while testing is in process, please. The state of Florida has very strict rules on FCAT administration and your elementary school is committed to following each and every one. Here are the rules parents need to know:
We know our boys and girls will do well on these state tests in Reading, Mathematics, and for fifth graders, Science. Make sure your child is well-rested, well-fed, and well-loved on test days. Make sure they arrive at school on time! Thanks for all your help.
Otherwise, it will be our usual busy, cheerful time at school. You are welcome on campus after 10:00 on test days. Remember we will be doing make-up tests all day so silence in the halls is golden!
Please see the back of this newsletter for important news about Kindergarten Round-Up. It is scheduled for Wednesday, April 25 at 2:00 PM.
Have a great week-end!
Sincerely,
Barbara Buys
