Dear Parents,

FCAT scores are beginning to arrive for our hardworking students in grades 3 – 5!  Preliminary results on Florida Writes (grade 4) and third grade FCAT Reading and Mathematics look good.  We expect hard copies for parents to arrive any day now.  As soon as we receive them, we will send them home to you.

We have two wonderful teachers retiring this school year which makes us all very sad.  Ms. Walton and Ms. Dearinger are moving on to a new phase in their lives and saying good-bye to their profession after long and successful careers.  Please join us on Wednesday, May 30 from 1:30 – 3:00 for a Retirement Celebration for both of these wonderful ladies.  Bring your children and we will celebrate in the Media Center!

All library books are due back to school right away.  Remember – you are responsible for lost or damaged books, both library books and textbooks.  We will let you know how much you owe for all lost or damaged books.  Look under the bed!  Look under the front seat of the car!  Those books are there somewhere and need to come back to us.

Remember there is no school on Monday, May 28 as we all celebrate the Memorial Day Holiday.

The Academic Focus for next week is Compare and Contrast in Reading and Operations in Mathematics.  We are not finished with our academic program until Wednesday, June 6.  That’s the last day of this school year.

Remember early dismissal at 12:30 on Monday – Wednesday, June 4 – 6.  Make sure you have pick-up and after school care arrangements for your child.  We do not offer free child care after school.

For eligible students, Summer School begins on Monday, June 11 at 8:00 AM.  We will serve breakfast beginning at 7:30.  Summer School ends at 1:00.  We offer Summer School for eligible third graders and selected ESOL students only.

We hope you have enrolled your student in Camp Invention July 16 – 20!  This is a great all-day summer experience with an emphasis on creativity, problem solving, and invention.  Children love it.  You can register online at www.Campinvention.com.

Your representatives to next year’s SAC are Julia Harris, Lisa Hymas, and Kim Vij.  Thanks to everyone who voted.

     Have a lovely long week-end!

Sincerely,

Barbara Buys

Dear Parents,

May has picked up speed and is zooming by!  Before you know it, summer will be here and we will say good-bye to our Wonderful Wiles Wildcats.  But wait!  We’re not finished yet.  At Kimball Wiles, we believe in teaching until the last day of school which is Wednesday, June 6.  Remember early dismissal on Monday & Tuesday, June 4 - 5 at 12:30.

We are expecting FCAT scores to begin arriving soon.  We will let you know when they arrive.  Florida Writes results arrived today.  Next we expect third grade FCAT Reading and Mathematics.  Stay tuned!

On Thursday, May 24, we hope you will join us for our Art and Music Showcase from 6:00 – 7:30 PM.  School will be open for you to see the beautiful artwork your children have produced this year.  At 7:00, our Wildcat Chorus will perform.  Hope you will be here.  The Arts are such an important part of school!

Yearbooks will be distributed next Friday, May 25.  If you forgot to buy one, we will have a few for sale.  Call the office if you would like us to reserve one for you.  They really are gorgeous and give a great overview of this wonderful school year.

All library books are due right away.

It is time for parents to vote for their representatives to the SAC for next school year.  Please use the tear-off at the end of this letter and return your ballot by Thursday, May 24.

We have a few openings left in Camp Invention this summer.  Better hurry.  Camp is filling up fast!

Please remember there is no school on Monday, May 28 for Memorial Day.

Have a great week-end with your lovely children!

Sincerely,

Barbara Buys

Dear Parents,

Next week our boys and girls will take part in the annual March for Babies event during the school day.  Thanks for sending in pledges!

Now is the time when families are making summer plans.  Remember we offer Fitness Camp, Summer Camp through EDEP, Reading Camp for identified third graders, Camp Invention, and ESOL Summer School for identified students.  We have something over the summer for just about any child!  Stop in or give us a call if you need more information on any of these summer offerings.

Also on the back of this newsletter is information on the Summer Food Service Program that is offered free at various schools.  Breakfast and lunch are both free for children 18 years old or younger.  This service is offered by Alachua County Food and Nutrition Services.

On Thursday, May 24, we will celebrate springtime and the Arts with our Spring Arts evening from 6:00 – 7:30.  Our school is filled with your children’s artwork and it just looks wonderful.  Every child’s artwork is on display!  Come see it that evening.  There will also be musical performances in the cafetorium from 6:30 – 7:30.  We hope you will join us.  It will be wonderful.

Hard as it is to believe, this school year is winding down.  We are already looking ahead to next year and starting to put plans in place.  Every year we offer you the opportunity to write a letter about your child and classroom placement for next school year.  No one knows better than you what type of teacher and classroom will help your child thrive.  If you don’t want to write, you can use a little form that we have available at our front desk or you can email me at buysbn@gm.sbac.edu.   Please take the time to do one or the other.  It really helps us make a good match for your child.  All letters are due to me by Friday, June 8.

Third graders take to the stage on Thursday, May 17 at 7:00 for their annual performance for family and friends.  Hope you will be here to see the fun!

Remember the Parent Climate Survey is online through your email address.  If we do not have your email, we will send home a hard copy.  Please complete the survey by Monday, May 14.  Thanks!

Academic Focus for next week is Main Idea and Details in Reading and Algebraic Thinking in Mathematics.

     Have a good week-end!

Sincerely,

Dear Parents,

We have had a great week with the boys and girls who continue to pay attention to their schoolwork, their good manners, and their social activities!  If your child is not in this wonderful group, you will hear from the classroom teacher!

Next week is Teacher Appreciation Week and a wonderful opportunity to let your child’s teachers know how much they have meant to you and your child this year.  Teachers would rather have a nice note or phone call from you than anything else.  Please take a moment to call or write a little something to a Wonderful Wiles Teacher.

On Tuesday, May 8 from 5:00 – 9:00 PM, our Business Partner Sonny’s Real Pit Bar-B-Q on Archer Rd. will host Kimball Wiles Spirit Night.  Remember 25% of proceeds from you come to our school when you present your flyer for dine in or take out.  What a great excuse not to cook and to take the family to Sonny’s!  Hope to see you there.

Last day for book check-out from the Media Center is Friday, May 11.  All books are due back into the Media Center on Friday, May 25.  Please remember you are responsible for paying for all lost or damaged library and text books.  Time to start searching now for those books that have stayed home way too long.

Progress Reports will be sent home with all students on Wednesday, May 9.

If you are interested in serving on next years SAC (School Advisory Council), please complete the tear-off at the end of this letter and return it to school by Friday, May 11.  After nominations are closed, parents will vote on their representatives to the SAC.  We need at least three parents to serve.  The SAC is an advisory committee to the school principal, oversees the School Improvement Plan, and provides input to the principal on student and parent needs.

Our annual Parent Climate Survey is ready for you to complete.  This year the survey is online.  Many of you will receive an email with directions or a hard copy later next week if no email is available.  The deadline to complete the survey is Monday, May 14.

     Have a great week-end!

Sincerely,

Barbara Buys

Principal
