Kindergarten B
Summer Update

********************************

Congratulations to all the Kindergarten children who worked incredibly hard all year. You really have grown so much, especially in the last few months!

To keep your skills sharp, here are some things you can practice:

  • Count aloud to 100 (or higher!).
  • Write numbers to 30 (or higher!).
  • Find shapes around your house. Can you find a circle, square, rectangle, triangle, pentagon, or octagon? Maybe you will even see a trapezoid!
  • Make patterns from dry pasta or cereal.
  • Read books that are "just right" for you. Remember the "5 Finger Test": As you begin to read a book, put up one finger for each word you can't figure out. If you get all 5 fingers up, this book is too hard. Choose another and start again.
  • Write about and illustrate stories you have read. A journal is a fun way to keep your writing all in one place. Don't forget to start on the first page, write across each line from the page top to the bottom, then continue on the next clean page. Put your date at the top like we practiced in school.
  • Use magnetic letters, alphabet beads, or Scrabble tiles to spell out words you know.
  • Investigate your backyard. Go on a scavenger hunt to find items on a list: something that's green, that's straight, square, that's smaller / larger than your fist, etc. Have fun!

A huge thank you goes out to all the parents and guardians this year. Without your constant love and care, your children would not be thriving as they are today. Your attention to your child's educational needs is just another way to show them your love. Don't forget to read to them daily, even if they can read themselves. This continues to be the single most important way that children become better readers. Plus- it's fun!

Enjoy this time of year with your children. We have learned a lot together this year and have enjoyed it immensely!

Happy Summer!
