End of the Year First Grade News

It’s been a GREAT year and I cannot believe it's already over!  We have worked hard and learned so much.  I have enjoyed each of your children and I thank you for sharing them with me.

During the summer it is important not to lose the skills your children have learned this year.
Here are a few activities to help keep those skills fresh and still have a little fun this summer:

Practice word lists and sight words

Read a book to yourself, a friend, your mom or dad or younger brother and sister

 Have someone read to you

Keep a journal of all your summer activities

 Get a library card

  Start a collection

Write a letter to Grandma or Grandpa

  Write your own comic strip

Retell your favorite story to someone

 Play “20 questions”

 Graph the weather

Make a pattern with your Fruit Loops

Use estimating to guess the weight of your pet, little brother, a cup, and your shoes

Tell your parents when it is a certain time – say, “it’s 12:00”; not “time for lunch”

Count the change in your pocket, your dad’s pocket (yes, you have to give it back)

Here are a few activities for you parents, just so you won’t feel left out:

   Give your child a hug

 Say ”I love you”

 Praise your child

 Talk to your child

Read and write with your child

 Count with your child

 Share news with your child

 Listen to your child

Listen to your child read…Isn’t it amazing?!
