Peace, Love, First Grade!
Ms. Burley’s Class News
for
February 2010
- Conferences: Thank you for attending your child's conference! It's easy to see why our class is so wonderful this year; the children take after their parents. You have truly prepared your children to be lifelong learners and wonderful people!
- Pennies for Pure Water: Room 204 organized a school-wide fundraiser to help provide clean water for the victims of Haiti's earthquake. Our final total was $1, 927.84. Lindsey, Mary Margaret, Jack Nooney, and Michael represented our class and presentd the information on the Bullard News Network. A big thanks to Michael's dad for filming the news and making DVDs for the "reporters" and our classs. On February 11, Kayla's mom will be our special guest speaker. She and her husband are from Haiti, and thankfully, all of their relatives are safe. We are anxious to learn more about the people and culture of Haiti.
- Goodbye, Jordan! We will miss you very much. Good Luck at your new school!
- Mystery Readers: Fridays at 10:15 are special times to hear stories from relatives and friends. Please contact Emily Becker if you wish to sign up.
- Language Arts: We continue reading many books independently, in guided reading, and together as a group. In writing we are learning how to write an "informational piece."
- Math: We continue working on numbers from 1-100. We are learning to tell time and learning about fractions. We had an impromptu fraction lesson with the leftover doughnuts from Jake's birthday!
Reminders:
- Overnight Book Checkout: The children will begin checking out appropriately leveled books every Monday-Thursday nights. Please help your child by listening to him/her read and returning the books in their bag upon completion.
- Please wear tennis shoes on P.E. days.
- Please return Poetry Notebooks on Mondays. We use them at literacy centers throughout the week. Also, please return library books on Tuesdays, if not before.
- Jump Rope for Heart will be held Friday, February 12!
