Frequently Asked Questions about my class:

    •  Do you give homework?  I typically do not assign specific homework assignments.  However,  students always have a weekly vocabulary unit.  I recommend they review these nightly.  Also, students always have an Accelerated Reader book to read and take a test on.  These two assignments are a routine part of my class.  Ask your child to see his or her Bingo Card.
    • Do you assign a textbook to take home?  I give students the option to take and keep a textbook home. Parents may also request that a textbook be sent home.  We read a variety of texts; many come from outside the textbook.  We do many creative writing projects which focus on literary devices and story elements. The textbook is just one of many tools that I use to teach reading.   I don't view it as a central part of my class, so I do not mandate that students take one home.
    • How and when do you give back feedback on grades?  I do my best to give students a weekly progress report.  This report has all test and assignment grades and a current average.  I find that students and parents like this; it prevents surprises at the end of the grading period.  I do not require that students return them signed by a parent.  I feel it's the parents' responsibility to inquire and the child's responsibility to share grades.  However, I do send out a general email to parents when I give out  progress reports.  Parents and students can request a progress report at anytime; it's no trouble to print one out.
