January 7, 2010

Dear Parents,

We had a very productive first
semester of the 2009-2010 school year.  I am looking forward to many educational and enjoyable activities during the spring semester.  Some of these include the reading of stories such as "Johnny Appleseed", "The Story of Ice Cream,  "The Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly" and "Ferdinand the Bull". Some activities with these stories are making ice cream, writing poetry, doing scientific experiments using the fives senses, and planting apple seeds.

The students are really doing well in math.  Each of them are working at their own functional level.  They have all made great progress using the Touchmath program.  Each afternoon we will do activities that enhance their math and fine motor skills.  They enjoy being able to go to the gym each day to shoot baskets and participate in other large motor skills activities.  They will also be able to go on schoolwide field trips with their grade level peers.

We will begin review of skills for the LAA1 assessment, which will begin in February.

We welcome each of you to our class to enjoy these activities with us.

Sincerely,
Freida Matschnig
