MASSA’S MASTERS Hello: I am thrilled that your child is in my classroom! Fourth grade is an exciting and challenging time in the life of your child. Some of the goals I work toward for each child are: My ultimate goal is to provide an exciting experience for my students by teaching the three R’s of Nannie Berry – RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY, AND RESOURCEFULLNESS. This letter is the first of many that will hopefully help to keep you informed of what is going on in the classroom. When I send any important information home, it will usually be sent within the Graded Papers folder. Your child will be bringing this folder home on Wednesdays. Please go over the papers in the folder and sign required letters and/or forms. This folder must be sent back with your signature the following day. You do not need to send the graded work back unless I have specifically requested you to do so. ASSIGNMENT BOOK AND BINDER In order to encourage responsibility and strong work habits, your child will be bringing home a binder every night. Within this binder you will find the assignments your child is expected to complete. Your child will be expected to write his or her assignments on a daily basis in his or her assignment book and complete these assignments on time. ASSIGNMENTS AND HOMEWORK Homework will consist of unfinished class work, follow up practice activities, and studying for tests. Projects will be assigned periodically. I will send home the details of the project at the time it is assigned. Students are expected to turn in assignments on time. If an assignment or homework is not turned in, the student will fill out a red Late Work Alert slip that notes the date and assignment missing. The student will have 3 days to complete and turn in the assignment. The final grade on this assignment will include a 10 point deduction. If the student fails to turn in the assignment within the 3 day period, the final grade will be 0. MAKE-UP WORK Students are allowed the same number of days as an excused absence to make up work they may have missed. I will be happy to put together the work for your child and send in to the office for you to pick up. However, please understand that many of the activities we do in class cannot be duplicated at home. Your child’s consistent attendance at school is crucial to his/her academic success this year. RELATED ARTS SCHEDULE FOR THE FIRST 9 WEEKS Monday: PE Tuesday (A): Media Tuesday (B): Guidance Wednesday: Art Thursday: Music Friday: PE LUNCH Our lunch will be from 11:55-12:25 p.m. You are welcome to join your child during this time.
MONEY
When sending money to school, please put it in an envelope with your child’s name, what it is for, and the amount. If your last name is different than your child, it would be helpful for you to write their name somewhere on the check. All checks must be made out to Nannie Berry. Please include a valid phone number on all checks.
COMMUNICATION
Keeping lines of communication open between school and home is crucial to your child’s success in fourth grade. Although we highly stress developing responsibility at this grade level, parents must be informed about what is going on in the classroom as well. In order to do this I will be sending home a weekly newsletter which will outline important dates, events, and pertinent information for students and parents. You can also find important information on my website http://www.schoolworksite.com/school/view_webpage.asp?id=304256.
Again, I want you to know how excited I am about this year and the opportunity to meet and get to know all of my new students and their families. If you have any concerns, I will be happy to discuss them with you at a scheduled time. Please do not drop by the classroom. Our time will be more productive when the time is reserved for you and your child. The best way to contact me is via email heather.massa@sumnerschools.org. You may also send in notes with your child or if you prefer to call and leave a message, the office phone number is 822-3123.
