The Phonics Dance

Your child will be "Phonics Dancing" this year!! The Phonics Dance helps students decode words as they understand the sounds made by various letter combinations.  Once a sound is taught, it is reviewed throughout the year along with previously taught sounds.  Our First Graders "dance" their way through the chants and rhymes associated with each sound and continually look for "hunks" and "chunks" in words that are part of our language.  These are the sounds we are learning to identify in words that we read.  Ask your child to demonstrate the chant for each sound.
