Our philosophy of education includes the development of physical fitness, development of motor skills and the understanding of the principles of exercise through game and sport. Positive attitudes, behaviors and respect for self and others are a requirement in physical education and health classes. The goal of the program is enjoyment of physical activity, resulting in the desire to continue exercise throughout the students’ lifetime.

I. CLASS STRUCTURE

A. Be on time for class. You must be in the locker room by the late bell.

B. When the whistle is blown, everyone is silent and waiting for directions.

C. Locker room changing time is approximately 5 minutes.

D. After the activity of the day, you will return to the locker rooms to change back into your school clothes. You will be dismissed from the locker rooms at the bell. Remember that the gymnasium is not a hallway – you must use the corridors to come and go from PE class.

E. If you are not participating in class because of medical reasons or are unprepared, please inform a teacher as soon as you enter the locker room.

II. PROPER ATTIRE FOR PARTICIPATION

Proper attire is required for class. STUDENTS MUST CHANGE THEIR SCHOOL CLOTHES IN ORDER TO PARTICIPATE IN PHYSICAL EDUCATION CLASS. Appropriate clothing includes: shorts (no zippers or snaps), T-shirt (no profanity or inappropriate shirts allowed), socks, sweatshirt/sweatpants according to weather.

III. LOCKS AND LOCKERS

A. You will be given a lock and assigned a locker in the locker room for the school year. If you lose your lock you will be required to pay for the lost lock ($5.00) and then will be issued a new lock.

B. The locker that is assigned to you will be recorded and kept on file in the PE office, along with the serial number of the lock and its combination. You may not change you locker assignment without permission.

IV. MEDICAL EXCUSES FROM CLASS

A. If you are not feeling well and request not to fully participate in class – you may talk to your teacher on that day.

B. If your medical is short term (one or two days) then you must bring in a note from home and then bring it to the nurse’s office before homeroom. She will give you a form to bring to your PE teacher. You will not participate, but observe the class.

C. Extended Medical Excuses – If you are going to be excused for three or more consecutive days, you must have a doctor’s note. First, take the doctor’s note to the nurse and then report to your PE teacher. During an extended medical excuse, you will be assigned to the media center and may be given an assignment to complete for that time.

D. It is our philosophy that if a student cannot participate in physical education class, than they should not be participating in another athletic or intramural program after school. We ask for your support and cooperation in this matter.
