TO: Parents of 8th Grade Students at William Annin Middle School

The New Jersey Administrative Code requires instruction in Family Life Education for students in kindergarten through grade 12. The Board has adopted revisions based on their philosophy statement, related recommendations, and the New Jersey Core Course Standards. Family Life Education instruction will occur in the sixth and eighth grades.

Consistent with statute, the adopted curriculum and supplementary texts and materials are available for review. Curriculums are available online at the district website, www.Bernardsboe.com. A list of approved materials for the various grade levels is part of the curriculum outline. Materials are housed in the media center and are available for review upon request. The building principal will make specific arrangements for this review.

Statutes also provide that any parent or guardian who objects to instruction in this content area on religious or moral grounds can have their son/daughter excluded, without penalty, by writing to the building principal. If an exemption is chosen, the Health instructor(s) will provide an alternate curriculum, not in the area of Family Life Education.
