Tuesday we will learn about earthquakes and how they are recorded using seismographs.  We will join Mrs. Miller's class and partake in jumping around our famous seismograph and complete to make seismographic waves!

Our class will be learining about the different types of volcanoes and their eruption styles.  Students will write a historical news article portraying the eruption of a famous volcano.  Students will use provided note sheets and a newspaper template to enhance the articles.

This week we will begin our unit on astronomy.  Students will be introduced to space measurements and review the history of astronomy.  Each student will research a historical aspect of astronomy to be presented to the class with a poster.  After the presentations are complete we will sequence the posters in order to create a historical time line.

This week we will study local and global winds and how the Coriolis Effect impacts wind movement.  Students will begin to log long term weather forecasts and determine their accuracy.

How are an astronaut and football player alike?

Our first week together we will review my classroom policies and procedures.  We will also discuss lab safety and you will be required to have your parent or guardian review and sign the contract with you.

We will begin a cooperative lab activity on Monday.  Students will fine tune their observation skills by completing a cooperative lab entitled Mission Earth. Students will be asked to re-read their lab safety contracts to prepare for a safety quiz on Thursday. It has been a pleasure getting aquainted with my new students!

This week we will begin to look at the Earth as a closed system.  Students will learn the difference between an open and closed system. Students will also work on a measurement lab to further hone their lab skills.

This week students will participate in the Fruitvale Water Lab.  This lab will focus on water pollution.  Students will be given a scenario where a well has been contaminated and must use problem solving skills to determine the source of contamination.
