Mrs. Mitchell’s Homework Plan
Reading Log: Your child should read 30 minutes each night. The reading log is a part of your child’s reading grade. He/she should write down the title of the books being read and a parent needs to initial each night. You will see that Saturday and Sunday have been combined on the log. In order to receive 100 points for the week your child needs to read at least six nights. This homework assignment will begin the first day of school.
Math: Your child will also receive math homework. It may not come home every night. Beginning the second week of school, you will get a homework calendar from me so you will know when your child has math homework. Math homework will not begin until week two.
Spelling: There may be some spelling homework. It will be noted on your child’s homework calendar. We will continue to use the Words Their Way spelling curriculum which was implemented last year so spelling homework may be different from what you have seen in the past.
There is a possibility that your child will have an occasional handwriting assignment for homework as well. If so, it will be on the homework calendar.
My plan is not to overwhelm you or your child with homework. The homework is intended to be an extension of skills that we are working on in class. The most important piece of this homework plan is the 30 minutes of individual reading. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thank you,
Mrs. Mitchell
