The Neville Tiger Band Department is home to five of the premier performing ensembles at Neville High School: 
The Marching Golden Band From Tigerland
Basketball Pep Band
Concert Band
Tiger Drumline
Jazz Band 


The bands perform at most Neville athletic events, assemblies, and at district marching and concert festivals and competitions, where they have received Excellent and Superior ratings.  The Tiger Band continues to carry on the traditions of excellence and "Tiger Pride" and entertains Neville fans of all ages!

Neville High School Percussion Syllabus 2010-2011

General Guidelines:

Music Class Expectations

- Class will begin promptly after the announcements/pledge

- Respect for everyone and their belongings

- Participate in class activities. Always make your best effort

- No candy, food, or drink. Water bottles are allowed.

- No food during rehearsals or in the band room unless permitted by leadership

- No touching of equipment that is not assigned to you  

- We always warm-up each day

- Make sure you have your music for class each and every day

- I expect you to keep up with your own sticks and music

- Football Players and Cheerleaders are required to play in rehearsal

- Work all of the time – study music, say rhythms, stickings, write in rhythms or note names as needed

- We will have class everyday - there will be no “free periods”

- Students are to follow the same rules as all students here at Neville

- We are an organization that takes pride in everything we do, act accordingly by…

     -Keeping our areas clean

     -pick up after yourself all of the time

- Take extra care of school equipment and instruments

- Those students who are not percussion will be working on marching and concert band music.

- 1st Nine weeks - Emphasis on Marching Band music/technique/drum cadences

- Students are to follow the same rules as all students here at Neville. See Neville High School Student Handbook – i.. cell phones or electronic devices

Percussion Goals:

- You will learn to read music in this class, no exceptions!

- Learn Snare Drum technique as applied for marching and concert applications

- Mallet Percussion

- Scales and arpeggios for major and minor scales

- Tympani 

- Rudiments (26 Standard and 40 PAS rudimental lists)

- Learn techniques for accessory percussion (Tambourine, triangle, crash cymbals, etc.)

- Read, learn and perform a variety of Percussion Ensemble literature

- Fill in and learn Band music for marching band, indoor drumline, and concert band

- Develop a large inventory of Exercises for Marching Percussion

- Develop marching/pit percussion section

Proper Techniques for:

- Snare Drum (marching, concert and world techniques)

- Tonal Bass Drums (as applied to contemporary marching techniques)

- Tenor Drums (as applied to contemporary percussion)

- Mallet Percussion (as applied to marching, concert and ethnic setting)

- Tympani (as applied to marching and concert percussion)

- Accessory Percussion (Tambourine, triangle, crash cymbals, etc.) 

- We will have after-school rehearsals every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 3:00-4:30.  Your grade in this applied class directly correlates to your attendance and participation at all after-school rehearsals, performances, and football games.

- No gum, candy, food, or drink. Water bottles are allowed.

- No food during rehearsals or in the band room unless permitted by leadership

- No touching of equipment that is not assigned to you  

- Make sure you have appropriate attire for class each and every day

- I expect you to keep up with your own uniforms and equipment

- We will rehearse everyday - there will be no “free periods”

- Students are to follow the same rules as all students here at Neville
