Week ending May 10, 2013
Language Arts: We read There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly and made our own old ladies to help us retell the story. We read My Mommy Hung the Moon and made our Mother’s Day cards and gifts filled with lots of love and extra care! We worked with the letter X during Handwriting. We visited www.starfall.com and listened for the sounds that the letter I makes. The children worked to sort short and long I words. We reviewed the following sight words during centers: why, what, when, was, why. The children completed their last writing sample of the year this week by writing a story about a fun day at the park.
Math: We read On Beyond Bugs! And the children worked to create and explain a pattern using bees, caterpillars, butterflies, and ladybugs. We also solved pattern block insect puzzles and the children had to record how many of each shape they used to complete their puzzles. We rolled dice and completed “Ladybug Addition.’
Social Studies/Science/Health: Wow!! We loved having Rich from the Environmental Center visit for the Basically Bugs presentation! We were able to see some interesting creatures, as well as learn some new, fun facts about insects and bugs. We read a non-fiction book titled Butterflies and sequenced the life cycle of a butterfly using pasta! We also read Bee Me and the children completed insect puzzles.
Special Notes and Reminders: Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms! Thank you for sharing the loves of your lives with me every day!
