Characteristics of Good Snack Foods for School

We will have a snack time at 9:30 each day before we go to specials.  Please follow the below guidlines.

1.  Can be eaten with hands

2.  Needs no preparation at school

3.  Is served in small pieces

4.  Very low in sugar or salt content

5.  Does not need refrigeration (insulated lunchbox keeps the snack cold enough)

 

I will not allow the students to eat cookies, chips, Pop Tarts or Little Debbie snacks.

 

Examples of Good Snack Foods for School

Vegetables 

Carrot sticks with or with out dip

Celery sticks, plain or filled w/ spread

Cucumber slice

Cauliflower and/or broccoli w/ dip

 

Cereal

Mixture of sugarless cereal

Dried fruits or nuts

Cheerios or raisins

 

Crackers

Animal or graham crackers                                                       

Saltines w/ or w/out peanut butter

Various crackers w/ or w/out spread or cheese

 

Breads

Raisin bread

English muffin

Whole or white bread

 

          Fruits

Orange or tangerine sections

Apple slices

Bananas

Raisins and nuts

Grapes

Melon balls or bites

 

Cheese

Cheese squares

String cheese

 

Miscellaneous

Pretzels

Popcorn (already popped)

Rice cakes

 

 

**Snacks with high sugar content will not be allowed for classroom snacks.

 

***Water is the only drink allowed in the classroom.
