I can't believe the school year is almost over. LEAP and iLEAP tests are over as of this week. We are on our way to a wonderful, hot summer.

I am very proud of my classes this year. As of January, we started 2 new programs in my classroom. For 6th graders, we started the System 44 program and for my 8th graders, we began READ 180. As of the March testing for Lexile levels, every single student in my 8th grade class increased their Lexile level. The System 44 & READ 180 programs are expected to help increase the Learner's Lexile level between 75 and 100 points in 1 years time. Most of my students have met and even exceeded that since January. In my 6th grade class, improvements are being seen on a daily basis. Keep up the good work and READ, READ, READ.

A GOOD READER

A good reader can look at the picture for clues.

A good reader can guess a word and make sense.

A good reader can say/check the beginning letters of a new word.

A good reader can try fixing it.

A good reader can read the sentence again and try something else.

A good reader can look for "chunks" in tricky words.

A good reader can skip the tricky part, read on, and then go back and fix it.

A good reader practices EVERYDAY.

A good reader talks about books with family and friends.

A good reader can ask does this make sense?

A good reader can ask does that sound right?

A good reader can ask does that look right?
