English II (Honors also):

This course is required to graduate.  The emphasis of this course is on reading and writing.  Short stories, cinematic techniques, nonfiction essays, poetry, drama and the novel will all be studied.  Students will be required to write multiple essays and complete a research project with MLA documentation.  Students may also be required to read novels outside of class.  Regular vocabulary, grammar and writing assignments will occur within the context of the literary selections to help students prepare for the END OF COURSE test.

 

This course will cover the following units/ writing workshops:

 

First semester:

Unit 1:  Voices of Modern Culture/  The Writing Process

Unit 2:  Cultural Conversations/ Response to literary or Synthesis paper

Unit 3:  Community/ Literary analysis paper

 

Second semester:

Unit 4: Justice/ Persuasive paper

Unit 5: Building Cultural Bridges/ Research

 

Honors only: The emphasis of this course is also on reading and writing with a more intense, individualized focus on literature, vocabulary and writing.  Additional homework and reading assignments are required.
