  THE BENEFITS OF ARTS EDUCATION
(Visual Art, Music, Theater)

Arts education benefits the student because it cultivates the wholechild, gradually building many kinds of literacy while developing intuition, reason, imagination, and dexterity into unique forms of expression, and communication.

An education in the arts benefits society because students of the arts gain powerful tools for understanding human experiences, both past and present.  They learn to respect the often very different ways others have of thinking, working, and expressing themselves.  They learn to make decisions in situations where there are no standard answers.

By studying the arts, students stimulate their natural creativity and learn to develop it to meet the needs of a complex and competitive society, and, as study and competence in the arts reinforce one another, the joy of learning becomes real, tangible, and powerful.

PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT

Strong family support will assure student success in school.

This support and encouragement is a necessary component for succes in the arts as well.  Parents are urged to become aware of the value of arts education in the schools, attend student performances and exhibitions, and supervise practice and home assignments.

     PROJECT ASSESSMENT

Key points considered when assessing individual art projects :

1-   Was the assignment completed?

2-   Were all directions followed as indicated by teacher?

3-   Did the student show adequate effort?

4-   Is the project exemplary of this student’s ability?

5-   Was the student focused & attentive throughout
the completion of this assignment?

6-   Did the student put forth extra effort towards the completion of this assignment?
