CLASSROOM PROCEDURES

¯  Entering the Room for Band Rehearsal:  Students enter the room quietly and retrieve their instrument from the closet.  Smaller instruments such as flutes or clarinets store their cases underneath their seats, whereas larger instrument cases need to be neatly lined up on the highest step in front of the blackboard.  Students may begin to warm up in their seat.  There should be no socializing during this time!

¯  Starting Class:  Once the director steps on the podium (or behind the conducting stand) rehearsal has begun.  At this time all instruments should be immediately placed in rest position and all talking should cease.  Instruments should be in playing position only when the conductor’s hands are in conducting position.

¯  Announcements: Announcements and reminders will be made at the beginning of rehearsal.  Only questions that are helpful to the entire group will be answered at this time.  Rehearsal ends when the director dismisses the band.  Students should not pack up their instruments until dismissed by the director.

¯  Stay in Your Seat: If you need to get up for any reason, raise your hand and wait to be recognized.  Do not wander around the room or leave without permission.

¯  Stop When the Director Stops:  When the director gives the cut off signal, all playing in the room must stop immediately.

¯  The Clock Does Not Dismiss You, The Director Does.
