Welcome to Ms. Gordic's 1st-5th
 Grade Social Communications Class

This week in class we will:

-Be starting a month long unit on Government.  We'll learn all about leaders and what they do.  From the home, to the school and community, all the way up to President   Barack   Obama, we'll find out who our leaders are and why we need rules.  Along the way, we'll also discover a bit about the President's day, make a recipe for his favorite trail mix, and learn about the First Dog, Bo.

-Learn about the blend  cr-

-Be going to the media center for the first time!  Your child should be able to state what color AR books they are looking for and how to behave in the library.

Conversation Piece:
This week we're talking about classifications!  We're learning what sorts of things are alive, whether they are plants or animals, and what characteristics each group has.  When you see an example, ask your child about it!

We're also working on opposites:  long/short; skinny/fat; empty/full, old/young, wet/dry and more.  (A student favorite seems to be awake/asleep, because they get to snore!)

Lastly, during the Kick Off Assembly for our Magazine Drive, one of the students in our class was picked to go up on stage in front of the entire elementary school!  He did a great job and won $5 for his participation.  Wow!
