Fluency Reads
On Mondays, your child is responsible for reading a story in the plastic sleeve in the home binder. Please read this story with your child 3 times nightly. In first grade, we are working hard on fluency. Please work on blending sounds together on those hard to read words. If your child is truly stumped, then read the word to your child during the fluency read. The goal is for your child to read every word in a minute.
On Tuesdays and Thursdays, I am sending home a book. Please read this book with
your child. It is important that your child brings the book back to school. I will not be able to send books home unless they are returned.
Wednesdays are free choice. Your child can choose any magazine, book, newspaper, or any other reading material to complete the book report.
My goal is to instill a love for reading while your child learns to read. Practicing correctly every night will assist your child in his/her journey toward success. Please practice blending and phonograms while reading.
