The Rewards Plus curriculum is an extension of Rewards, a popular program that increases the learning success of intermediate and secondary students. Students who participated in Rewards learned to decode long words and build reading fluency. In Rewards Plus, students will take the concepts learned in Rewards and apply them to a specific subject, in this case, science. This course not only furthers reading ability, it introduces vocabulary, provides basic information, and teaches comprehension and writing strategies that students will use as they advance to secondary-level science courses.
At the end of this course, students will:
• accurately read the multisyllabic words found in
science textbooks and high-stakes tests.
• preview passages by examining the headings and
subheadings.
• answer literal and inferential questions to
increase comprehension.
• complete information webs that summarize
passage content.
• write coherent single-paragraph and
multiparagraph answers.
• demonstrate understanding of critical vocabulary
words.
