Accelerated Reader

Each student should be reading an AR book every night. If your child is not bringing an AR book home, please contact me.

If it is a picture book, it should be read 3 times before your child takes a test.  If it is a chapter book, it should be read once.

When a student achieves 4 test scores of 100% in a row, they will have their reading levels moved up by one tenth of a level
To help your child develop their reading critical thinking shills, please ensure that your child reads a book at least 30 minutes every day. Ask them few of these questions about the story.
What is the setting of the story?
          What are the main characters?
What is the main idea of the story?
What is the plot of the story? Problem/ Solution
What cause the problem in the story?
          How is the problem resolved?
Compare and contrast the two main characters?
What is the best summary of the story?
What is the moral of the story?
What is the purpose of the story? Explain/Entertain/Persuade
Compare and contrast this story with another story. How are they alike? How are they different?
