Dear Parents and Students,

Welcome to my website! My name is Ms. Jena Lewis, and I will be the reading instructor for your child this school year.  I have been a teacher in Lee County off and on for the past 25 years. This is my first year at Veteran's Park, and I am thrilled to be here!

I graduated from the University of Florida ( GO GATORS!!! ) with a  B.A. in English.  Since then I have received my certification in Education and  my endorsement in Reading. My youngest child is a senior at Fort Myers High School, my middle child is a proud second year GATOR, and my oldest son is currently interning in New York City. My most favorite things to do include spending time with my family, traveling, and reading.

My classes are as follows:

Blocks 1, 3, and 4: 7th Grade Developmental Reading.  We will be working in two different programs the first semester: "Rewards," and "Work Wisdom." The Rewards series will help students decode larger words that they encounter in content area classes (science, social studies, math) by teaching multisyllabic word strategies.  The Word Wisdom series will help the students with word meanings by using Context Clue strategies and other reading skill strategies. 

Blocks 5/6 and 7/8: In these two classes I teach an Intensive Reading program called "Language!".

This is a very scripted program which covers Phonics, Phonemic Awareness, Spelling, Vocabulary, Comprehension, and Writing Skills on a daily basis. These students will test on skills, vocabulary, and spelling after every fifth lesson.
