Athletic Eligibility Requirements / Participation Regulations
Credits / Grade Point Average:
12th Grade Student-Athletes:
Fall Sports - must have passed 27.5 credits from the previous year and must have a 61 (1.2) GPA from the 4th marking period.
Winter Sports - must have passed 27.5 credits from the previous year and must have a 61 (1.2) GPA from the 1st marking period.
Spring Sports - must have passed 13.75 credits from the 1st semester and must have a 61 (1.2) GPA from the 2nd marking period.
11th/10th Grade Student-Athletes:
Fall Sports - must have passed 30 credits from the previous year and must have a 61 (1.2) GPA from the 4th marking period.
Winter Sports - must have passed 30 credits from the previous year and must have a 61 (1.2) GPA from the 1st marking period.
Spring Sports - must have passed 15 credits from the 1st semester and must have a 61 (1.2) GPA from the 2nd marking period.
9th Grade Student-Athletes:
Fall Sports - no credit or GPA requirements.
Winter Sports - no credit requirements, but must have a 61 (1.2) GPA from the 1st marking period.
Spring Sports - must have passed 15 credits from the 1st semester and must have a 61 (1.2) GPA from the 2nd marking period.
NOTE: Summer School credits count as an extension of the previous year. Summer School grades do not alter the 4th marking period GPA.
Age:
A student-athlete becomes ineligible for high school athletics if he/she reaches the age of nineteen (19) prior to September 1. A ninth grade student-athlete becomes ineligible for Freshman Athletics if he/she reaches the age of sixteen (16) prior to September 1, No student-athlete will be eligible for high school athletics after the expiration of four (4) consecutive years following his/her entrance into the ninth grade.
Medical Examination:
All student-athletes must have a current, completed Athletic Pre-Participation Physical Examination Form (Health History and Physical Evaluation) on file in the nurses' office prior to their first practice (N.J.A.C. 6A:16-2.2).
Steroid Testing:
No student may participate in NJSIAA competition unless the student and the student's parent/guardian consent to random steroid testing (NJ Executive Order 72).
Concussion Policy Acknowledgment:
No student may participate in his/her desired sport unless the student and the student's parent/guardian sign the NJSIAA Concussion Policy Acknowledgment Form (NJSIAA Concussion Policy).
Practices:
A student-athlete shall not be permitted to participate in a scrimmage or game in any strenuous sport until he/she has completed SIX DAYS OF PRACTICE IN THAT SPORT (days of 24 hours, not sessions) (NJSIAA Rule 2, Section 7).
